Who IS He?

The subway station was no more crowded than usual, and no less. The crowds milling around looked so impassive. It was just another weekday and the masses were heading off to school or jobs. Tony nudged his way through the crowd and managed to find a seat near the back. The usual number of people hung on to the safety rods in the center as the cars became more and more congested. He saw one woman holding a toddler and thought to offer his seat but dismissed the idea. It would be considered too macho and besides nobody did that sort of thing anymore, did they?  The usual number of people were reading, sleeping, or staring ahead of them. So far nothing seemed different from any other day but he got this feeling it would be.
Just when he was about to open his briefcase and jot down a few numbers, the door opened again.  This time only one person walked in, and he was smiling. Those in the aisle seemed to make room for him as if he was someone special. Someone offered him his seat, but he waved them off; no he was fine standing. He reached to take the lady’s baby, and to everyone’s surprize the child nearly threw herself into the stranger’s arms! Then the buzzing sound of whispering began. Who is He? No one seemed to know. He was dressed in a nondescript manner. Tony noticed the man was looking around interestedly as if trying to catch people’s eyes. He met one young girl’s eyes and flashed her a sunny smile, and immediately several around her smiled back. Then his eyes connected with someone else, and Tony was amazed at the concern and compassion in them. Why, he seems to be able to read people’s minds! The Stranger got off at the very next stop, but the atmosphere had changed dramatically.

Snatches of various conversations reached Tony’s ears.

“Did you see that Man who held the baby for that woman?”

                “…Wasn’t He remarkable?”
“Oh, I don’t know. He seemed so ordinary, except for Eyes. They seemed so kind….”

“…Everyone seems so happy since He passed by.”

Then Tony heard someone softly whisper; “Do you think it was Jesus?”

Do others see Jesus in YOU?
