Danger in the City!

Shem’s brow furrowed. “Where did Japheth and Mairekah go?”
Rebecca, his wife, also looked worried. “I saw them heading towards the city.”

“The city! Don’t they know how dangerous it is? Dad! I’m heading to the city! Ham you come with me!”

“Riots have been boiling over in every quarter,” Ham retorted. “I’m not getting involved.”

“But what about your brother? How--”
“What are two against so many?”

“ I must, I must know how he is doing!” Mairekah wailed and hand in hand the two girls crept from bush to bush as they, too, followed.
A terrific roar filled the air accented by the beating of drums.
“Oh! It’s another gang!” Rebecca breathed. Through a break in the trees she saw that the men were creeping stealthily ahead. They looked so defenceless against the angry mobs.
“Japheth!” Mairekah sobbed when she saw him sprawled out on the ground trying to protect his head with his arms.
“ Finally you came out of hiding,” the opposing gang leader roared, not at Japheth but at his enemies who lashed at them with unrestrained fury.
Rebecca bit her lip when she saw Seth sneak out and start to drag Japheth to safety. “Oh, please, please, someone help him.” she wept.
Someone clouted Seth on the head, he staggered to one knee and Noah warded off another blow with his own body.
“Oh, Dad,” Mairekah burbled.
